| 1. The Supreme Court of India on 20 August 2026 uploaded an order setting up a five-member High-Powered Inquiry Committee (HPEC) to investigate allegations of police excesses during student protests. The order was formally passed on 18 August 2026 by a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana. Advertisement

| 2. On 20 August 2026, Chhattisgarh became the first inland state of India to export value added Tilapia products. The state exported 382 tons of Tilapia products to United States. The state had a review meeting on the notified Tilapia cluster in Raipur. 20 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी, ‘तिलापिया’ (Tilapia) माशांपासून बनवलेल्या मूल्यवर्धित उत्पादनांची निर्यात करणारे छत्तीसगड हे भारतातील पहिले भूवेष्टित (inland) राज्य बनले. या राज्याने अमेरिकेला 382 टन तिलापिया उत्पादनांची निर्यात केली. रायपूर येथे अधिसूचित तिलापिया क्लस्टरबाबत राज्याची आढावा बैठक झाली. |
| 3. The invasive sap-sucking insect, Drosicha turkistanica has been detected in poplar and willow plantations in Hanjipora in Pulwama district and parts of South Kashmir including Kulgam and Anantnag. The field samples were collected from Mountain Research Center for Field Crops, Khudwani and the specimen was scientifically identified by National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Bengaluru. पुलवामा जिल्ह्यातील हंजीपोरा आणि कुलगाम व अनंतनागसह दक्षिण काश्मीरच्या काही भागांमधील पॉपलर आणि विलोच्या लागवडीमध्ये ‘ड्रोसिचा तुर्किस्तानिका’ (Drosicha turkistanica) या रस-शोषणाऱ्या आक्रमक कीटकाची उपस्थिती आढळून आली आहे. खुडवानी येथील ‘माउंटेन रिसर्च सेंटर फॉर फील्ड क्रॉप्स’मधून नमुने गोळा करण्यात आले होते आणि बेंगळुरू येथील ‘नॅशनल ब्युरो ऑफ ॲग्रिकल्चरल इन्सेक्ट रिसोर्सेस’द्वारे या कीटकाची शास्त्रीय ओळख पटवण्यात आली. |
| 4. PhonePe signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for integration of its enterprise data intelligence platform PulsePro in the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan portal on 20 August 2026. | 5. The 31st meeting of the Southern Zonal Council was inaugurated on 20th August, 2026 at Kovalam near Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. | 6. GJ 523b is an exoplanet that is classified as a “mega-Earth” with a radius 2.55 times that of Earth and a mass of 23.5 Earth masses. It orbits a mid-K dwarf star and has an estimated bulk density of ~7.8 grams per cubic centimeter. | 7. On 20 August 2026, India and Japan signed a Memorandum of Arrangement on Maritime Security Cooperation in New Delhi. | 8. Bhilai Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has launched a digital CO2 Dashboard on 18 August 2026. Carbon emissions for Bhilai Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh and Chandrapur Ferro Alloy Plant in Maharashtra are logged on the platform. ‘स्टील अथॉरिटी ऑफ इंडिया लिमिटेड’च्या (SAIL) भिलाई स्टील प्लांटने 18 ऑगस्ट 2026 रोजी एक डिजिटल CO2 डॅशबोर्ड सुरू केला आहे. या प्लॅटफॉर्मवर छत्तीसगडमधील भिलाई स्टील प्लांट आणि महाराष्ट्रातील चंद्रपूर फेरो ॲलॉय प्लांट यांच्या कार्बन उत्सर्जनाची नोंद केली जाते. |
