1. The Indian government has established Chakshu, a digital portal aimed at protecting residents against financial fraud. This portal, created by the Department of Telecommunication, allows anyone to report fraudulent calls and text messages, providing a strong defence against faceless criminals who use technology to deceive and defraud people of their money. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is also working on establishing an app for Chakshu, which will increase its accessibility and reach.

2. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the implementation of an interoperable payment system for Internet banking transactions. This initiative is likely to simplify the digital payments ecosystem in India, allowing users to pay companies via net banking regardless of whether their banks and merchants’ payment aggregators are connected.

3. Moody’s, a leading global credit rating organisation, has raised its projection for India’s GDP growth in 2024 from 6.1% to 6.8%. The agency’s decision reflects both global and domestic optimism in the country’s economy, which is fueled by strong manufacturing activity and significant infrastructure expenditure.

4. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics and Information Technology, and Jal Shakti, recently announced the establishment of a ‘Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre’ in the near future. It is intended to be established at the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras. The statement was made during his virtual presentation at the All India Research Scholars Summit – 2024, which was organised by IIT Chennai.

On March 4, 2024, the Supreme Court of India issued a major decision ruling that Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) cannot claim immunity from prosecution in situations involving bribery for votes or speeches in their respective chambers. The seven-judge court, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, reversed the 1998 judgement in the PV Narasimha Rao vs. CBI case.
