| 1. Using a $50 million Treasury Bill, India gave the Maldives financial help. A Treasury Bill (T-bill) “rollover” is the purchase of a new T-bill using the proceeds of a maturing one, therefore extending the investment for another term. Under growing economic difficulties, the Maldivian government requested this action. The main creditors of the Maldives are India and China, rivals vying for sway over this strategically significant Indian Ocean country.
