1. In March 2024, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) published its ‘State of the Economy’ report, which offers valuable information on the economic performance and future prospects of the country. The paper, written by employees of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), including Deputy Governor M D Patra, emphasised the need of maintaining a monetary policy that minimises risks in order to steer inflation towards the objective of 4%. Furthermore, it highlighted a noticeable increase in per capita income, using information obtained from the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES).

2. Forced labour is a pervasive problem that impacts millions of individuals across the globe. A study published in Geneva by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) reveals that coerced labour yields illicit profits amounting to $36 billion annually, reflecting a notable surge of 37% since 2014. Increased profits generated from the exploitation of victims and a rise in the number of individuals coerced into labour are both contributing factors to this surge in illicit earnings.

4. Grok, an AI chatbot, was created by xAI, a startup established by Elon Musk. xAI has fulfilled its pledge to make Grok open source, as revealed by Musk a week ago. Musk’s choice to make Grok open source followed his legal action against OpenAI, a well-known AI firm, in which he accused them of straying from their original principles of transparency and technology sharing for the benefit of mankind.

5. The Indian and United States (US) navy have initiated a bilateral Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise named “Tiger Triumph-24” on the eastern coast of India. The exercise, commencing on March 18, 2024, will span a week and encompass a wide range of resources from the Indian Navy, Indian Army, and Indian Air Force. Additionally, it will incorporate vessels and personnel from the US Navy, US Marine Corps, and US Army.
