1. National Girl Child Day (NGCD) is observed on 24th January every year to shed light on the challenges faced by girls in Indian society.
भारतीय समाजातील मुलींसमोरील आव्हानांवर प्रकाश टाकण्यासाठी दरवर्षी 24 जानेवारीला राष्ट्रीय बालिका दिन (NGCD) पाळला जातो.

2. The central government has announced the Bharat Ratna for late Bihar leader Karpoori Thakur, who was born 100 years ago. Thakur, also known as ‘Jannayak’ or people’s leader, served as Chief Minister twice and pioneered social justice policies despite being from a marginalised caste. Major parties in Bihar have long supported bestowing India’s highest civilian honour upon the state icon.

3. The governments of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), have launched a massive recruitment drive to send around 10,000 workers to Israel, primarily for construction work.

5. Cameroon is set to launch a groundbreaking malaria vaccine programme on January 22nd, covering 2.5 lakh children over two years. Africa accounts for 95% of global malaria mortality, so reducing infections there is critical. Officials described the campaign as a significant step forward in the fight against the life-threatening disease, following decades of effort.

7. The central government recently introduced the Wild Life (Protection) Licencing (Additional Matters for Consideration) Rules, 2024, which amend the Wildlife Trade Rules, 1983, resulting in significant changes to the licencing process and the exclusion of certain species.
