| 1. On August 1, 2025, the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025 went into force. This law makes important changes to five major banking laws. | 2. The Indian Army started Operation Shiv Shakti in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation was successful in stopping two terrorists from crossing the Line of Control (LoC). This happened not long after Operation Mahadev killed three terrorists who were engaged in the devastating Pahalgam attack on April 22 that murdered 26 victims. | 3. In 2025, India’s digital payments system took a big step forward. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that its Digital Payments Index (RBI-DPI) hit 493.22 in March 2025. This is a big jump from 465.33 in September 2024. The RBI-DPI keeps track of how digital payments are growing and spreading across the country. | 4. Marine heat waves (MHWs) in 2023 were bigger and stronger than any other year. These occurrences lasted four times longer than usual and covered 96 percent of the world’s ocean surface. Scientists say that this kind of dramatic ocean warming could mean that the climate is about to change. | 7. The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Rs. 2000 crore as a grant-in-aid through a Central Sector Scheme. The program would last from 2025-26 to 2028-29, with Rs. 500 crore set aside each year. The award would help NCDC get Rs. 20,000 crore from the open market. | 8. The government of Odisha has said that it will bring tigers to the Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in the Bargarh district. The goal of this move is to bring back the state’s large cats. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has given the go-ahead for Debrigarh to become a tiger reserve. A group of experts has been put together to set the boundaries for the core and buffer zones where tigers can live.
