1. The latest deal between NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) is a big step forward for digital payment systems around the world. The goal of this partnership is to set up a system in Peru that works like the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). This would make Peru the first country in South America to use NPCI’s technology. This is part of NPCI’s larger plan to launch UPI in many parts of the world.

2. On April 24, the World Health Organisation (WHO) reported the first documented fatality from the H5N2 strain of bird flu in Mexico. This is a rather concerning indication for public health. The deceased man was a Mexican citizen of 59 years old. He’d experienced diarrhoea, a temperature, dyspnea, and general malaise. The day he arrived at the Mexico City hospital, the illness eventually claimed his life. Being the first documented instance of the H5N2 virus in a human worldwide, this case is significant.

3. Together with four banks, the Ministry of Defense’s Defence Accounts Department (DAD) has enhanced its SPARSH (System for Pension Administration, RAKSHA) programme. Among these are the Utkarsh Small Finance Bank, Canara Association, Central Bank of India, and Bank of India. By means of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), these banks will establish SPARSH service centres in 1,128 branches nationwide. With this action, pension administration is to be improved and recipients would get payments straight from the source, without middlemen.

4. The first person to spend a thousand days in space was 59-year-old Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko. During Kononenko’s fifth voyage to the International Space Station (ISS), which began on September 15, 2023, this milestone was achieved, as announced by Roscosmos.

5. Portugal is preparing to introduce a new “solidarity visa” to replace its “golden visa” scheme. Offering reasonably priced homes for locals and a place for migrants to reside is one adaptable approach to channel foreign capital into better for society locations. The existing programme, which started in 2012 and has already brought in over €7.3 billion for the nation, is supposed to be improved, according to Minister of Cabinet Affairs.

7.
