| 2. Scientists working in Antarctica have uncovered the oldest directly dated ice and air sample on Earth in East Antarctica’s Allan Hills region. The sample is 6 million years old, and contains tiny bubbles of trapped air. Argon isotope analysis allowed dating of the sample. अंटार्क्टिकामध्ये काम करणाऱ्या शास्त्रज्ञांनी पूर्व अंटार्क्टिकाच्या ॲलन हिल्स प्रदेशात पृथ्वीवरील सर्वात जुना, थेट कालमापन केलेला बर्फ आणि हवेचा नमुना शोधून काढला आहे. हा नमुना ६० लाख वर्षे जुना असून, त्यात अडकलेल्या हवेचे लहान बुडबुडे आहेत. आर्गॉन समस्थानिकांच्या विश्लेषणामुळे या नमुन्याचे कालमापन करणे शक्य झाले. |
| 3. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) on May 16, 2026 issued notices to Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho and JioMart over the alleged sale of herbicide products. Earlier, the CCPA had imposed penalties on several e-commerce entities on January 16, 2026 for illegal sale of unauthorised walkie-talkies. केंद्रीय ग्राहक संरक्षण प्राधिकरणाने (CCPA) 16 मे 2026 रोजी ॲमेझॉन, फ्लिपकार्ट, मीशो आणि जिओमार्ट यांना, कथितरित्या तणनाशक उत्पादनांची विक्री केल्याप्रकरणी नोटिसा बजावल्या. यापूर्वी, 16 जानेवारी 2026 रोजी CCPA ने अनधिकृत वॉकी-टॉकींची बेकायदेशीर विक्री केल्याबद्दल अनेक ई-कॉमर्स संस्थांवर दंड ठोठावला होता. |
| 4. India seized ₹182 crore worth of Captagon tablets and powder in first-ever seizure under Operation Ragepill. The consignment was seized by the Narcotics Control Bureau from Mundra Port in Gujarat and Neb Sarai area in South Delhi and a Syrian national was arrested in connection with the case. ‘ऑपरेशन रेजपिल’ (Operation Ragepill) अंतर्गत करण्यात आलेल्या पहिल्याच कारवाईत, भारताने १८२ कोटी रुपये किमतीच्या ‘कॅप्टॅगॉन’ (Captagon) गोळ्या आणि पावडर जप्त केली. अमली पदार्थ नियंत्रण ब्युरोने (NCB) गुजरातच्या मुंद्रा बंदर परिसरात आणि दक्षिण दिल्लीतील नेब सराय भागात ही खेप जप्त केली असून, या प्रकरणी एका सीरियन नागरिकाला अटक करण्यात आली आहे. |
| 5. India is expanding offshore oil and gas exploration with new seismic surveys, stratigraphic drilling and bidding rounds across the Bay of Bengal and adjoining basins. The Directorate General of Hydrocarbons is undertaking a massive offshore survey program covering 161,000 line km over almost two years. भारत बंगालचा उपसागर आणि लगतच्या खोऱ्यांमध्ये नवीन भूकंपीय सर्वेक्षणे (seismic surveys), स्तरशास्त्रीय वेधन (stratigraphic drilling) आणि बोली फेऱ्यांच्या माध्यमातून सागरी तेल व वायू संशोधनाचा विस्तार करत आहे. ‘हायड्रोकार्बन्स महासंचालनालय’ (Directorate General of Hydrocarbons) जवळपास दोन वर्षांच्या कालावधीत 1,61,000 ‘लाइन किलोमीटर’ क्षेत्र व्यापणारा एक विशाल सागरी सर्वेक्षण कार्यक्रम हाती घेत आहे. |

BRICS countries’ foreign ministers met in New Delhi on 15 May 2026 and renewed their commitment to an independent and viable State of Palestine within the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. The meeting also recognized the Gaza Strip as part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and linked Palestinian statehood to the two-State solution in accordance with international law. ब्रिक्स (BRICS) देशांच्या परराष्ट्रमंत्र्यांनी 15 मे 2026 रोजी नवी दिल्ली येथे भेट घेतली आणि 1967 पूर्वीच्या सीमांतर्गत, पूर्व जेरुसलेम ही राजधानी असलेल्या एका स्वतंत्र व व्यवहार्य पॅलेस्टाईन राष्ट्राप्रती आपली कटिबद्धता पुन्हा अधोरेखित केली. या बैठकीत गाझा पट्टीला ‘व्याप्त पॅलेस्टिनी प्रदेशा’चा (Occupied Palestinian Territory) भाग म्हणून मान्यता देण्यात आली, तसेच आंतरराष्ट्रीय कायद्यानुसार पॅलेस्टिनी राष्ट्राच्या निर्मितीचा संबंध ‘द्वि-राष्ट्र उपायाशी’ (Two-State Solution) जोडण्यात आला. |
| 7. On 15 May 2026 Donald Trump announced that Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, named as ISIS’s global second-in-command, had been neutralized in Nigeria. The operation was carried out by American and Nigerian forces and al-Minuki was also known as Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Mainuki. 15 मे 2026रोजी डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प यांनी जाहीर केले की, ISIS चा जागतिक स्तरावरील दुसऱ्या क्रमांकाचा प्रमुख म्हणून ओळखला जाणारा अबू-बिलाल अल-मिनुकी याला नायजेरियामध्ये निष्प्रभ करण्यात आले आहे. ही मोहीम अमेरिकन आणि नायजेरियन सैन्याने पार पाडली; तसेच अल-मिनुकी हा ‘अबू बक्र इब्न मुहम्मद इब्न अली अल-मैनुकी’ या नावानेही ओळखला जात असे. |
| 8. Rajasthan’s first semiconductor cluster was inaugurated in Bhiwadi of Alwar district on May 15, 2026. The facility is located in the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster at Salarpur, Khushkhera and was inaugurated by Sahasra Semiconductors Pvt Ltd. राजस्थानच्या पहिल्या सेमीकंडक्टर क्लस्टरचे उद्घाटन १५ मे २०२६ रोजी अलवर जिल्ह्यातील भिवाडी येथे करण्यात आले. ही सुविधा सलारपूर, खुशखेरा येथील ‘इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स मॅन्युफॅक्चरिंग क्लस्टर’मध्ये स्थित असून, ‘सहस्र सेमीकंडक्टर्स प्रा. लि.’ द्वारे तिचे उद्घाटन करण्यात आले. |
