1. The Department of Expenditure, under the Ministry of Finance, has granted 22 states the approval for extra borrowing of Rs 60,876.80 crore for their contribution to the National Pension System (NPS) during the fiscal year 2023-24. This additional borrowing is permitted over and above the normal net borrowing ceiling set for the states.

6. On December 15, 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially included noma, a severe gangrenous disease of the mouth and face, in its list of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Also known as cancrum oris, noma has a high mortality rate of approximately 90%, and it is associated with extreme poverty, malnutrition, and poor sanitation.
