1. The European Union has revised its visa system exclusively for Indian nationals. This move, which takes effect in April 2024, drastically transforms how Indians approach travel inside the Schengen region. Historically, Schengen visas had shorter validity periods, which limited frequent tourists. The new policy now allows for longer stays and repeated entries, aiming to streamline travel and strengthen bilateral connections between India and the EU.

2. Dr. Naima Khatoon became Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)’s first female vice chancellor in 100 years. President Droupadi Murmu and the Election Commission of India confirmed her five-year appointment.
AMU PhD in psychology Dr. Khatoon has taught, directed, and lectured at the Women’s College. Khatoon has taught at the National University of Rwanda and had administrative posts at AMU in addition to her scholarly achievements.

4. Bhutan is holding the Sustainable Finance for Tiger environments Conference on Earth Day 2024 to raise $1 billion over the next decade to preserve Asian tiger environments. These landscapes sustain biodiversity, sequester carbon, support over 100 million people, and protect the planet.

5. Yozma 2.0 is a new fund established by the Israeli government with the intention of incentivizing institutional investors, including pension funds and insurance companies, to augment their holdings in high-tech enterprises. The objective of the fund is to increase the variety of funding sources available to Israel’s technology sector, which is vital to the economy of the country.

6. The Indian Army is currently undertaking two projects with a combined value of approximately Rs 6,800 crore to construct domestic Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) systems. The development of these portable missile systems aims to counter airborne threats along the frontiers with China and Pakistan. The Army intends to acquire more than 500 launchers and around 3,000 missiles using these domestic channels.
