| 1. India came onto a fresh sub-variant of Covid-19 called NB.1.8.1. With its possible transmissibility, this variant—which is descended from the Omicron lineage JN.1—has drawn questions. Though it is not now regarded as a “variant of interest,” the World Health Organization (WHO) categorized it as a “variant under monitoring,” or VUM, suggesting that its alterations call for additional research. Luckily the Indian Coast Guard and a Navy ship saved every crew member. But the event has caused concerns about a possible oil leak, which calls for quick reaction.

| 3. India closed all land ports including those with Bangladesh, hence imposing trade restrictions. | 5. On May 24, 2025 the India Meteorological Department (IMD) declared that the southwest monsoon over Kerala will start early. Eight days before the planned date of June 1, something happened. Early monsoon heralds the start of the four-month rainy season, which accounts for more than seventy percent of India’s yearly rainfall. Rare in nature, this early start occurred last in 2009.

Recent studies on the impact of blue light on fungus conducted in Thiruvananthapuram by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) have revealed Researchers found that in developing yeast, extended blue light exposure can induce genomic changes. This work tackles the increasing difficulty of fungus resistance to conventional anti-fungal medications. The findings of the work point to possible fresh directions for non-toxic antifungal treatments.
