1. Starting April 1, 2024, the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in several areas of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland will be extended for another six months by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The decision was made after assessing the level of law and order in these states located in the northeast.

2. The indigenous light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mark 1A fighter jet was successfully flown by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru on March 28, 2024. The aircraft remained in flight for a duration of 15 minutes during its inaugural flight.

3. Japan has implemented a countrywide recall of a nutritional supplement named ‘beni-koji choleste aid’ that was designed to reduce cholesterol levels. The recall was launched due to concerns over the supplement’s potential association with two fatalities and around 106 hospitalisations in the nation. Kobayashi Pharmaceutical, the business responsible for distributing the medicine, has issued a recall for five items, which includes around 300,000 units of ‘beni-koji choleste help’.

4. TikTok, a widely used video sharing network, is at risk of being prohibited in the United States following the recent approval of a measure by the House of Representatives. US officials have launched a motion that requires ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, to transfer its US business to American owners. The incident has ignited a fervent discourse over data privacy, political disinformation, and the power dynamics between the United States and China.

5. The annual India TB report reveals that there has been a 16% reduction in tuberculosis (TB) cases in India from 2015 to 2022, which is higher than the global fall of 9%.
The India TB Report 2024 from the National TB Elimination Programme revealed that last year, a total of 25.55 lakh cases of TB were reported, which is the largest number since the inception of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) in the 1960s.

6. The Union Minister of Roads, Transport and roadways, Nitin Gadkari, has recently declared intentions to implement a satellite-based toll collecting system for the roadways of the country. This cutting-edge technology is designed to levy tolls according to the distance covered by cars, automatically debiting the corresponding money from users’ bank accounts. The implementation of this measure is anticipated to decrease toll fees, optimise travel experiences, and enhance the overall effectiveness of India’s highway system.

7. Ex “Ex Tiger Triumph 2024,” a military-to-military exercise involving the tri-services of India and the United States, has been completed. Commencing on March 18, 2024, the fourteen-day exercise is designed to bolster bilateral relations, improve humanitarian aid, disaster relief (HADR), and sub-conventional operations capabilities, and enhance interoperability.

8. Thailand’s parliament has just passed a measure on marriage equality, moving the country closer to becoming the third jurisdiction in Asia to legalise same-sex relationships. The measure, which took over ten years to develop, garnered backing from all major political factions in Thailand. Among the 415 legislators in attendance at the parliamentary session, a significant majority of 400 voted in support of the measure, while a mere 10 voted against it.
