1. On March 1, fintech giant Paytm announced plans to terminate certain operational agreements between its parent company One97 Communications and the group’s payments bank unit, Paytm Payments Bank (PPBL). As a result of governance modifications, the two businesses will operate with greater independence going ahead.
One 97 Communications Limited (OCL) will continue to provide services such as the Paytm app, Paytm QR, Paytm soundbox, and Paytm Card devices.

2. On February 2, 2023, the Defence Ministry signed five capital acquisition deals for ₹39,125 crore with local manufacturers to purchase essential systems for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Contracts were handed during a ceremony attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) were among the major private businesses who received contracts.

3. On March 1, 2023, India’s Environment Ministry received Cabinet clearance to establish an International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) headquartered in New Delhi. The multinational alliance is modelled after India’s International Solar Alliance, which boosted worldwide tiger conservation efforts.

4. On March 2, India signed a $11 million grant agreement with Sri Lanka and a private partner to build hybrid renewable energy infrastructure on three islands off the Jaffna peninsula in northern Sri Lanka.
The venture is the third India-backed energy project in Sri Lanka’s north and east. The National Thermal Power Corporation is leading a solar project in the eastern Sampur town, while the Adani Group is developing renewable energy projects at Mannar and Pooneryn to the north.

5. On March 2nd, official data revealed India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) gross revenue collection for February 2023 rose sharply by 12.54% year-on-year to cross ₹1.68 lakh crore. This marks both – the third highest monthly receipts from the indirect tax regime as well as the third best GST revenue growth figure for 2023-24.

6. On March 2nd, India’s Ministry of External Affairs reported that the first batch of Indian technical professionals had arrived in the Maldives to take over operational tasks from the military troops stationed in the island nation. The decision follows previous conversations between the two administrations about replacing military with technology teams.

7. After five days of negotiations between trade ministers from 164 member countries, the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC13) concluded on March 1, 2024 without tangible progress on various contested issues. However, a temporary truce was agreed upon regarding e-commerce duties.

8. Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi unveiled the Coal Logistics Plan and Policy on February 27th, 2024, at an event in New Delhi hosted by the Indian National Committee of the World Mining Congress.
