| 1. The entrepreneur Elon Musk’s recent demand to disband USAID has sparked a contentious discussion over the direction of US foreign assistance. As a result of President Donald Trump’s USAID budget restriction, several internal contractors were put on unpaid leave. USAID should be shut down, according to Musk, who was nominated to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The agency’s function and efficacy in providing international help have been called into doubt as a result.
