1. For Project Cheetah’s next phase, India has indicated interest in obtaining cheetahs from Kenya. Later this month, a group of Kenyan authorities will travel to India to talk about the potential translocation and how many cheetahs they would be prepared to part with.

2. Under the leadership of EU chief Ursula von der Leyen, the European Union has pledged $1 billion in aid to Lebanon. Declared during her sojourn to Lebanon on May 2, 2024, this dedication seeks to enhance the socio-economic stability of the nation, which has been contending with a severe economic crisis since the latter part of 2019. The allocated funds, which will remain available until 2027, are specifically designed to improve fundamental services like healthcare and education, while also stimulating economic growth through essential reforms.

3. With the Bank of Namibia, NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international division of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), signed its first international contract on May 3, 2024.
The goal of this partnership is to create in Namibia a real-time payment system similar to the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) in India. The programme is meant to make merchant payments and immediate person-to-person transactions easier, therefore encouraging digital financial inclusion in the nation.

5. According to a recent World Health Organisation (WHO) research, during the last 50 years, global immunisation efforts are thought to have saved 154 million lives.

Even with initiatives to reduce overuse of fertilisers, India’s urea usage has been rising, hitting a record 35.8 million tonnes in 2023–24 (a 16.9% rise from 2013–14).
