1. The Dubai Air Taxi Service is a planned aerial transportation network set to revolutionize urban mobility in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. When it launches in 2026, it is projected to become the inaugural citywide air transportation service globally. Dubai engaged into accords at the World Government Summit in February 2024 that authorised the construction of an eVTOL air taxi system that would span the entire city. The accords established a worldwide unprecedented dedication to introducing such a comprehensive service and solidified Dubai’s position as a frontrunner in transportation innovation on a global scale.

2. Recently published in the 286th Law Commission Report, the establishment of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Epidemic Plan is suggested as a means to combat future epidemics. It highlighted limitations of the colonial-era Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 (EDA) which lacks guidelines on critical issues like division of powers between central and state governments. Consequently, uncoordinated responses ensue in the midst of epidemics. A new law or amendments to EDA were proposed in the report in order to fill these gaps.

3. The pristine Gupteswar Forest, near to the Gupteswar Shiva temple in Odisha’s Koraput district, has been designated as the state’s fourth Biodiversity-Heritage Site (BHS), according to a recent government announcement. The location spans 350 hectares of delimited territory.

4. The ruling Mahagathbandhan coalition of Bihar, which included Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and Congress, came to an end in January 2023. Kumar subsequently established an alliance with the BJP, resigned as Chief Minister, and took another oath with new allies. This sparked a floor test in the Bihar Legislative Assembly on February 12, 2023, to establish whether Kumar’s new administration had the support of the House.

5. The ‘Greening and Restoration of Wasteland with Agroforestry’ (GROW) report and portal were recently introduced by the NITI Aayog. The NITI Aayog’s GROW initiative employs remote sensing and GIS to evaluate the viability of agroforestry in every district of India. By 2030, it intends to create an additional carbon sink and restore 26 million hectares of degraded land.
