1. According to the latest report from the World Bank, India is set to become the largest recipient of remittances, with inflows expected to increase by 12.4% to $125 billion in 2023, constituting 3.4% of the country’s gross domestic product.

2. Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck recently announced the Gelephu Smartcity Project, a mega “international city” near the Indian border. This project, officially named the Gelephu Special Administrative Region (SAR), spans 1,000 square kilometers and aims to be an economic corridor connecting South Asia with Southeast Asia via India’s northeastern states.

6. The Telecommunications Bill, 2023 is a significant legislative development aimed at amending and consolidating laws related to the development, expansion, and operation of telecommunication services and networks in India. This new Bill seeks to replace key legislations including the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933, and the Telegraph Wires (Unlawful Possession) Act, 1950.

8. On December 15, 2023, the Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) joined hands, signing a significant agreement for a 37 billion Japanese Yen ($250 million) loan. This funding will continue to support the construction of the 82-kilometer Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. The loan, amounting to 37 billion Japanese Yen, is part of a broader $1,049 million Multi-tranche Financing Facility (MFF) approved by ADB in 2020 for the RRTS project.

10. Khelo India Games will be held in Tamil Nadu (Chennai, Coimbatore,Madurai and Trichy) from 19 to 31 January, 2024. More than 5,500 sports persons and over 1,600 coaches are expected to participate in the event.
