| 1. On July 5, 2023, the Assam government issued instructions to the Border police, stating that instances of non-Muslim individuals who entered India unlawfully prior to 2014 should not be sent to Foreigners Tribunals (FTs). Subsequent to the enactment of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act of 2019, those who are not of the Muslim faith who are seeking refuge from persecution in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Pakistan are provided with a pathway to get citizenship.

| 4. The implementation of centralised recruitment for the Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) nationwide, as announced in the 2023 Budget, and the inclusion of obligatory Hindi proficiency has led to a surge in transfer requests.

| 5. A project called ASMITA (Augmenting Study Materials in Indian languages via Translation and Academic Writing) was recently initiated with the goal of creating 22,000 books in Indian languages during the next five years. This is one of the several measures implemented by the government to encourage the inclusion of Indian languages in the school system, following the guidelines of the National school Policy (NEP) 2020.

| 7. India has just completed its fourth periodic evaluation by the UN Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) in Geneva. The evaluation emphasised India’s commitment to adhering to global human rights norms and its preparedness to address issues while simultaneously safeguarding and advancing the human rights of its populace.
