The Kerala Health Department has implemented standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the management of acute meningitis cases, which may serve as the initial set of guidelines in India for this uncommon infection. In the majority of cases, the amoebic parasite Naegleria fowleri was identified, while Vermamoeba vermiformis was implicated in one case.
