| 1. Brazilian forest fires encountered an unprecedented surge in 2024, primarily due to climate change. According to the Fire Annual Report by MapBiomas, the number of hectares of wilderness that were destroyed by flames increased from the historical average, totaling more than 30.87 million hectares. | 2. The Union Cabinet of India has authorized the establishment of a regional wing of the International Potato Center (CIP) in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, which is located in Peru. The objective of this initiative is to improve the research and development of sweet potatoes and potatoes in South Asia. The CIP-South Asia Regional Center (CSARC) is a new facility that will provide assistance to farmers in India and neighboring countries with the objective of enhancing agricultural security and productivity.

| 6. The ICMR-National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune has shown that Favipiravir could be able to treat the Chandipura virus (CHPV). It revealed lower virus loads and better survival in mice experiments before they were tested in humans, although these results are still early. Before moving on to human clinical trials, more testing on animal models is needed.

| 8. The Union Environment Ministry has started a pilot program to deal with the growing number of confrontations between people and tigers in India. The goal of this plan is to improve the monitoring and preservation of tigers outside of tiger reserves. The National Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) has agreed to pay for this project, which will focus on 80 forest divisions in 10 states.
