1. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired the Akash-1S surface to air defence missile system.

2. The commandant of the Indian Army Infantry School, Lieutenant General Shailesh Tinaikar, has been appointed the commander of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the second biggest peacekeeping operation.
