1. In the case of Association of Democratic Reforms v. Election Commission of India in 2024, the Supreme Court affirmed the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and dismissed the proposal to go back to paper ballots. Furthermore, the Court dismissed the plea for complete cross-verification of EVM votes using Voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) slips, upholding the existing practice of random 5% verification in Assembly seats.

6. The Embassy of Israel in India has recently partnered with a non-profit organisation to formally participate in the ‘Million Miyawaki’ initiative as a part of the Earth Day celebration.The objective of this initiative is to plant one million trees in Delhi-NCR by establishing ‘forest-like’ Miyawaki plantations consisting of 600 trees each. These plantations would include a diverse range of up to 30 locally obtained species like as Anjan, Amala, Bel, Arjun, and Gunj.

7. In the week ending April 19, 2024, India’s foreign exchange reserves decreased by USD 2.282 billion to USD 640.334 billion, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
रिझर्व्ह बँक ऑफ इंडिया (RBI) नुसार, 19 एप्रिल 2024 रोजी संपलेल्या आठवड्यात, भारताचा परकीय चलन साठा USD 2.282 अब्जांनी कमी होऊन USD 640.334 अब्ज झाला आहे.

8. Foreign direct investment (OFDI) in India witnessed a significant decrease of 39% to USD 28.64 billion during the fiscal year concluding in March 2024. This decline can be attributed to the prevailing uncertainty surrounding global economic conditions. The main factor contributing to the decline is a decrease in investments through both equity and loan channels. Additionally, the decline in international acquisitions by Indian companies contributed to this contraction.’
