1. More than 500,000 pangolins were taken from the wild between 2016 and 2024. This shows how big the illegal wildlife trade is as World Pangolin Day 2026 brings attention to the species’ situation. CITES has released a new report that says 553,042 pangolins were seized in 2,222 cases in 49 countries over the course of eight years. At least 74 countries were involved in illegal trade, which took place along 178 different routes.

२०१६ ते २०२४ दरम्यान जंगलातून ५,००,००० हून अधिक पेंगोलिन पकडण्यात आले. २०२६ च्या जागतिक पेंगोलिन दिनानिमित्त या प्रजातींच्या परिस्थितीकडे लक्ष वेधले जात असल्याने यावरून वन्यजीवांचा बेकायदेशीर व्यापार किती मोठा आहे हे दिसून येते. CITES ने एक नवीन अहवाल प्रसिद्ध केला आहे ज्यामध्ये असे म्हटले आहे की आठ वर्षांच्या कालावधीत ४९ देशांमध्ये २,२२२ प्रकरणांमध्ये ५,५३,०४२ पेंगोलिन जप्त करण्यात आले. १७८ वेगवेगळ्या मार्गांनी होणाऱ्या बेकायदेशीर व्यापारात किमान ७४ देश सहभागी होते.

2. Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has said that he will sign an executive order putting a 10% tariff on goods from all over the world. This comes just hours after the US Supreme Court ruled that his reciprocal tariff system was illegal. The move is a big step up in trade policy tensions and comes after a major court ruling against one of his main economic plans.Trump said at a press conference that the new tariff would be added to the existing duties under Section 122. He also said that investigations were beginning under Section 301 and other rules to stop what he called unfair trading practices.

3. During the first session of the International Conference on Chemistry in Multidisciplinary Research (ICCMR–2026), Nagaland University gave Lifetime Achievement Awards to five well-known academics. The conference took place from February 18 to 20 at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall in Lumami. It brought together top scholars from India and other countries.
The awards honored outstanding work in chemical sciences and related fields. 4. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, has started the second phase of the Vibrant Village Program in Assam. This is a big step toward improving infrastructure and people’s lives in border areas. The goal of the project is to turn villages along the Bangladesh border into centers of development that meet national growth standards. The program began in the village of Natanpur in the Barak Valley region.
The move is part of the Centre’s larger plan to make sure that border villages are not seen as remote areas, but as important places for infrastructure and social and economic growth.केंद्रीय गृहमंत्री अमित शहा यांनी आसाममध्ये व्हायब्रंट व्हिलेज प्रोग्रामचा दुसरा टप्पा सुरू केला आहे. सीमावर्ती भागातील पायाभूत सुविधा आणि लोकांचे जीवनमान सुधारण्याच्या दिशेने हे एक मोठे पाऊल आहे. बांगलादेश सीमेवरील गावांना राष्ट्रीय विकास मानके पूर्ण करणाऱ्या विकास केंद्रांमध्ये रूपांतरित करणे हे या प्रकल्पाचे उद्दिष्ट आहे. बराक व्हॅली प्रदेशातील नटनपूर गावात या कार्यक्रमाची सुरुवात झाली.

The move is a big step toward improving cooperation between the two countries in important minerals, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence (AI).

6. Mani Shankar Mukherjee, a famous Bengali writer who went by the pen name Sankar, died in Kolkata at the age of 92. The writer, who won the Sahitya Akademi Award, died in a private hospital because of health problems related to old age. He has two daughters who are still alive. His death ends a remarkable time in literature that shaped Bengali fiction for more than seventy years.

1. After the last armed Maoist, Suresh Koda, gave up in Munger district, Bihar was officially declared free of Naxal activities. The development is a big step forward in the State’s long fight against Left Wing Extremism. Authorities have confirmed that there are no armed Naxalite groups operating in any of the districts that were previously affected. Rakesh Kumar, the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Munger range, said that all 23 districts that were once affected by Naxalism are now free of organized armed groups.

2. The Kerala State Cabinet has approved the Kerala Nativity Card Bill, which gives the government the power to issue Nativity Cards as an official form of identification for accessing State services and meeting social needs. The card that is being proposed is based on the current Nativity Certificate, which proves that someone is from Kerala.The Chief Minister’s Office says that the card will be an official document for services provided by the State government. The Bill is likely to be introduced when the Kerala Legislative Assembly meets again on February 23.

CHEOPS, a spacecraft from the European Space Agency, has found an unusual arrangement that goes against what was thought to be true.

4. The successful qualification level load test of the drogue parachute for the Gaganyaan program gave India’s first human spaceflight mission a big boost. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) worked together to do the test at the Rail Track Rocket Sledge (RTRS) facility in Chandigarh. The milestone makes India more ready for crewed spaceflight as part of the ambitious Gaganyaan mission.

5. India is set to strengthen its sea-based nuclear deterrent with the commissioning of INS Aridhaman, the third indigenous Arihant-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN). The submarine, designated S4, is expected to be inducted into the Indian Navy by April-May after completing final stages of sea trials. Once commissioned, it will mark a significant milestone in India’s quest for credible and continuous at-sea nuclear deterrence.

6. At the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympics, athletes from Russia and Belarus will be able to compete under their national flags. This is a big change from the rules that were in place in 2022. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has confirmed that both countries will only get a small number of spots. This means that their athletes will be able to compete with full national recognition, including flags and anthems during medal ceremonies.

1. At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) showed off VoicERA, an open-source, end-to-end Voice AI stack. The project is a big step toward making India’s Digital Public Infrastructure better for voice technologies that work in more than one language. The Digital India BHASHINI Division, which is part of the Digital India Corporation, led the launch. This shows that the government is working to make AI systems that work for everyone and at a large scale.

This book gives a complete picture of India’s AI and deep-tech startup ecosystem. The collection shows the size, variety, and global reach of Indian AI businesses. It is a major step forward in keeping track of the country’s shift from experimentation to innovation that is competitive on a global scale.

3. Artificial intelligence has made its way into India’s elections. At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Bihar showed off a mobile-based AI-powered remote voting system. The Bihar State Election Commission called the platform a “digital governance innovation” that would make things easier to get to. The system was first used in the 2025 elections for urban local bodies, and it might be used again in future Assembly elections.

4. India has signed a five-year deal with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to help end world hunger by providing rice on a regular basis. The move makes New Delhi’s role in dealing with food insecurity stronger as humanitarian crises grow in Africa, West Asia, and areas affected by conflict. The agreement shows that India is becoming more involved in global food security and humanitarian work.

On February 19, world leaders will meet at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi for the India AI Impact Summit 2026 to officially adopt the “Delhi Declaration.” This is a key moment in the governance of technology around the world. The deal is being called the “Magna Carta of AI” because it changes the focus of the global conversation from narrow risk management to broad development, fairness, and growth driven by innovation. The Delhi framework is different from previous summits in Bletchley Park and Seoul, which focused on existential risks. Instead, it reflects priorities coming from the Global South.

8. The Supreme Court made a historic decision that menstrual health is a part of the right to dignity and should be protected by the Constitution. The decision is a big step toward ending “period poverty” in India and changes the way people think about menstrual health from a welfare issue to one of equality and public policy.
The court said that even though toilets and household taps have been built better, these changes have not led to the effective end of menstrual deprivation. 1. Bangladesh is about to go through a big political change. After Sheikh Hasina was ousted as Prime Minister in 2024, Rahman was sworn in as Prime Minister. This was his first time in formal leadership since he had been in exile for 17 years. The February 12 parliamentary elections changed the political landscape of the country, giving the BNP and its allies a clear mandate.

6. DBS Bank is the first bank in Asia-Pacific to test Visa Intelligent Commerce (VIC). This is a big step forward for agent-initiated digital payments. The goal of working with Visa is to make sure that AI-ready card credentials, authentication systems, and payment signals are all working properly. This will make sure that the ecosystem is ready for safe, consent-based transactions that AI agents can do on behalf of customers. 8. A Class IV student from Guwahati has made Assam famous across the country by winning the Veergatha 5.0 Super 100 title. Ayesha Karim, a student at Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti School in Amingaon, won the award for her powerful artwork showing how brave Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Her success puts Assam on the national map because she is the only student from the state to get this honor in five years.
