1. Actress-producer Dia Mirza has been appointed UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador for India. Dia is also the brand ambassador for the Wildlife Trust of India.As a Goodwill Ambassador, Dia will work with the UN to further spread the message on priority areas including clean air, clean seas, wildlife protection and climate change.

1. Robin Campillo’s French film ‘120 Beats Per Minute’, won the Golden Peacock Award for best film at the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The film’s actor Nahuel Perez Biscayart won the Silver Peacock in the Best Actor (male) category.

2.  The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed senior bureaucrat Badri Narain Sharma as the first Chairman of National Anti-Profiteering Authority (NAA) under Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. The government has set up this authority to stop profiteering under the provisions of GST law.

5.  Legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee would be handed over France’s highest civilian award “Legion of Honour” during the 42nd edition of the International Kolkata Book Fair in January next year.

1. Three IITs and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore have made the cut among top 20 varsities in BRICS countries in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Rankings. The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has secured ninth rank followed by IISc, Bangalore (10), IIT Delhi (15) and IIT Madras (18). China’s Tsinghua University has topped this list.
