The Union government has asked the Supreme Court of India to rethink the basic structure of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) because of the growing problem of “agenda-driven litigation.”This has brought back the argument about whether PIL jurisdiction, which used to be a way to get social justice, needs to be adjusted to stop abuse while still allowing people to get justice.

‘एजेंडा-प्रेरित खटल्यां’ची (agenda-driven litigation) वाढती समस्या लक्षात घेऊन, केंद्र सरकारने भारताच्या सर्वोच्च न्यायालयाला ‘जनहित याचनेच्या’ (PIL) मूळ रचनेचा पुनर्विचार करण्याची विनंती केली आहे. यामुळे तो जुनाच वाद पुन्हा ऐरणीवर आला आहे की—जनहित याचनेचे अधिकारक्षेत्र, जे एकेकाळी सामाजिक न्याय मिळवून देण्याचे एक साधन होते—त्याचा गैरवापर रोखण्यासाठी आणि त्याच वेळी लोकांना न्याय मिळवणे शक्य व्हावे यासाठी, या अधिकारक्षेत्रात काही फेरबदल करण्याची आवश्यकता आहे का.

1. Under the Paris Agreement, India has officially sent the United Nations climate body its new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for the years 2031 to 2035. The new promises are mostly about making more clean energy, lowering the amount of pollution that comes from it, and making more carbon sinks by planting trees and forests. India also made it clear that getting these goals done will depend on money, technology, and training from developed countries, as promised in global climate agreements.

पॅरिस करारांतर्गत, भारताने संयुक्त राष्ट्रांच्या हवामानविषयक संस्थेकडे (UN climate body) सन २०२१ ते २०३५ या कालावधीसाठीची आपली नवीन ‘राष्ट्रीय निर्धारित योगदान’ (NDCs) अधिकृतपणे सादर केली आहेत. या नवीन वचनबद्धता प्रामुख्याने अधिक स्वच्छ ऊर्जेची निर्मिती करणे, त्यातून होणारे प्रदूषण कमी करणे आणि वृक्षारोपण व वनीकरण याद्वारे अधिक ‘कार्बन सिंक’ (कार्बन शोषक क्षेत्रे) निर्माण करणे या बाबींवर आधारित आहेत. भारताने हे देखील स्पष्ट केले आहे की, ही उद्दिष्टे साध्य करणे हे विकसित देशांकडून मिळणाऱ्या आर्थिक साहाय्यावर, तंत्रज्ञानावर आणि प्रशिक्षणावर अवलंबून असेल; ज्याचे आश्वासन जागतिक हवामान करारांमध्ये देण्यात आले आहे.

2. The Supreme Court has said that ending a live-in relationship is not a crime if both people agreed to it. The court said that emotional pain alone cannot turn a consensual relationship into a criminal case while hearing the plea of a woman who had lived with a man for 15 years and had a child with him. After her ex-boyfriend married another woman, the woman tried to get him arrested for sexual exploitation and harassment.

3. The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has made Shekha Jheel Bird Sanctuary in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, a Ramsar site (Wetland of International Importance). This brings the total number of Ramsar sites in India to 99 and the number in the state to 12.

केंद्रीय पर्यावरण, वन आणि हवामान बदल मंत्रालयाने, उत्तर प्रदेशातील अलीगढ येथील ‘शेखा झील पक्षी अभयारण्या’ला ‘रामसर स्थळ’ (आंतरराष्ट्रीय महत्त्वाचे पाणथळ क्षेत्र) म्हणून घोषित केले आहे. यामुळे भारतातील एकूण रामसर स्थळांची संख्या 99 झाली असून, या राज्यातील अशा स्थळांची संख्या 12 वर पोहोचली आहे.

4. The Government of India has improved the Minimum Support Price (MSP)-based procurement system under PM-AASHA. It has also expanded operations in Chhattisgarh and started Bihar’s first structured pulse procurement initiative under the Atmanirbhar Pulses Mission to help farmers and make them more self-sufficient.

The goal of the initiative is to find new talent and give them a direct path from simulator racing to the rest of the motorsport world.

1. On April 27 and 28, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will go to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting of defense ministers. The meeting of high-level officials is likely to focus on security issues in the region, terrorism, extremism, and the shifting geopolitical landscape in Asia and Eurasia.

4. The Supreme Court made a big decision when it let a 15-year-old girl end her 31-week pregnancy for medical reasons. The court said that reproductive autonomy is a basic right under Article 21 of the Constitution. The Court said that forcing a minor to keep a pregnancy she doesn’t want would violate her privacy, dignity, and personal freedom.

5. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) told Noida International Airport to make Nitu Sarma its interim Chief Executive Officer. The change is necessary because Indian nationals must now hold the positions of airport CEO in India.

The award was given during the International Day of Women in Industry 2026 celebrations to GMC for its work combining women’s empowerment with environmentally friendly waste management.

8. A new scientific study has found that sperm whales may use structures for communication that are similar to those used by humans. Researchers who studied their vocal sounds, called codas, found organized patterns and variations that suggest a more complicated way of communicating than was thought before.

1. The UPSIDC Industrial Area in Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh, is home to India’s first fully integrated recycling facility for lithium-ion batteries and rare earth magnets. Rocklink India built the plant, which is a big step toward making it easier to recover important minerals in India and helping the country switch to clean energy.

The Onkalo facility is located under Olkiluoto Island and is meant to safely store spent nuclear fuel for up to 100,000 years. The project is a big step toward solving one of nuclear energy’s biggest long-term problems: how to safely get rid of radioactive waste.

2. Chinese scientists have found a new mineral on the Moon called Cerium–Magnesium Changesite. This is the 11th mineral known to come from the Moon. The China Geological Survey made the announcement, and it is seen as a big step forward in the study of geology outside of Earth. Scientists think that the mineral could help make high-efficiency LED technology better and help us learn more about how the moon formed.

4. The Indian naval ship INS Nireekshak has docked at Colombo port in Sri Lanka for a training and operational turnaround visit. The goal is to improve maritime cooperation between the two countries. 5. The Rajasthan health department has ordered the immediate withdrawal of seven medicines after lab tests showed that they were not good enough. 6. Bagalkot University in Karnataka will give honorary doctorates to S. 7. India’s 99th Ramsar site is the Shekha Jheel Bird Sanctuary in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. This is another big step in the country’s efforts to protect its wetlands. Uttar Pradesh now has 12 Ramsar sites, the most of any Indian state. This makes it even more important for the environment.
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav made the announcement and said that the designation would help biodiversity, local jobs, climate security, and water conservation.
