1. The Indian Army has recently developed a dedicated technological unit called the “Signals Technology Evaluation and Adaptation Group” (STEAG), which marks a significant advancement in preparing for future conflict. STEAG’s main goal is to do research and assessment of advanced communication technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G and 6G networks, machine learning, and quantum technologies, specifically for military purposes.

2. Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, has achieved a decisive triumph in the presidential election, prolonging his almost 25-year reign for a another six years. The election has faced extensive criticism from Western governments and opposition parties for its perceived lack of democratic legitimacy. Putin has praised the outcome as a validation of his choice to challenge the West and invade Ukraine, despite facing opposition.

3. A recent publication has revealed the existence of a minimum of 3,000 more compounds in plastics, surpassing the prior estimations made by environmental organisations. A team of European scientists, financed by the Norwegian Research Council, has completed a research that has found more than 16,000 compounds present in plastics. Approximately 25% of these chemicals are believed to pose a risk to both human health and the environment.
The discovery has sparked considerable apprehension over pollution and the well-being of consumers, especially considering the widespread use of plastics in common objects like food packaging, toys, and medical gadgets.

4. The Central government has just approved an order allowing the transfer of captive elephants across states, as stated in a Gazette announcement. The decision has been well received by festival organisers, including Paramekkavu Devaswom, one of the organisers of Thrissur Pooram. They have been actively promoting a modification to the Wildlife Act in order to tackle the scarcity of captive elephants for different rites and celebrations.

The official proclamation was announced during a ceremonial event conducted at the Barahi Ghat, located on the picturesque beaches of the Phewa Lake.
