1. NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has established a collaboration with State Bank of India (SBI) to facilitate the electronic recharging of NCMCs via the Bharat BillPay platform. This action is intended to provide NCMC users with a streamlined and convenient top-up process while preventing lengthy lines.

2. North Korea has successfully tested a new “super-large” warhead specifically developed for the Hwasal-1 Ra-3 strategic cruise missile. Additionally, they have also tested a novel anti-aircraft missile known as the Pyoljji-1-2.

3. It was revealed by the U.S. Department of State that plans are now being made to pull about 1,000 American troops out of Niger.  This move is a big change in U.S. military and foreign policy in Africa, especially in the Sahel area, which is a hub for extremist activities and political conflict. This decision came at a time when Niger was moving away from its past alliances with Western countries and towards military and strategic ties with Russia. The idea of pulling out was reaffirmed when U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbel.

4. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is upset and critical of Moderna Inc.’s choice to rethink its plans to construct a $500 million plant in Kenya to make vaccines. Moderna, which is famous for its COVID-19 vaccine, said in October 2021 that it would spend in Africa to help make its mRNA vaccine collection. Two years later, though, the company has shelved the plans because there is less demand for COVID-19 vaccines on the continent.

5. Scientists have found that the Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica, which is about the size of France, moves by 6 to 8 centimetres all of a sudden once or twice a day. The Whillans Ice Stream causes these moves. It is a fast-moving river of ice that gets stuck sometimes and then pushes forward. The finding shows a part of ice shelf dynamics that was not known before. It also makes people worry about the Ross Ice Shelf’s long-term security in the face of climate change.

6. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently gave the green light to Euvichol-S, a new oral cholera vaccine made in South Korea by EuBiologics Co., Ltd. The new vaccine works about the same as older cholera vaccines, but its makeup is simpler, which makes it easier to make and cheaper. It is believed that this prequalification will increase the supply of oral cholera vaccines (OCV) around the world and help fight the current rise in cholera cases around the world.
