1. The Indian Railways is constructing the world’s highest railway bridge in the challenging terrain of the Himalayas, which is expected to be completed in the coming months. The Chenab Bridge, an engineering marvel, is a part of the strategically important Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramullah (USBRL) railway link that will connect Jammu & Kashmir to the rest of India.

2. The Indian Government is set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Project Elephant with the Gaj Utsav 2023. This two-day event aims to promote elephant conservation, protect their habitat and corridors, and prevent human-elephant conflicts. It will also ensure the welfare of captive elephants in India.
भारत सरकार प्रोजेक्ट एलिफंटचा 30 वा वर्धापन दिन गज उत्सव 2023 सह साजरा करणार आहे. या दोन दिवसीय कार्यक्रमाचा उद्देश हत्तींच्या संवर्धनाला प्रोत्साहन देणे, त्यांच्या निवासस्थानाचे आणि कॉरिडॉरचे संरक्षण करणे आणि मानव-हत्ती संघर्ष रोखणे हे आहे. हे भारतातील बंदिस्त हत्तींचे कल्याण देखील सुनिश्चित करेल.

3. A team of scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) recently discovered a new catfish species in Arunachal Pradesh. The discovery was announced in a statement by the ZSI. The new catfish species has been christened ‘Exostoma Dhritiae’.
भारतीय प्राणीवैज्ञानिक सर्वेक्षण (ZSI) च्या शास्त्रज्ञांच्या पथकाने अलीकडेच अरुणाचल प्रदेशमध्ये कॅटफिशची नवीन प्रजाती शोधून काढली. ZSI ने एका निवेदनात या शोधाची घोषणा केली. कॅटफिशच्या नवीन प्रजातीला ‘एक्सोस्टोमा धृतिया’ असे नाव देण्यात आले आहे.

4. A new report by the World Food Programme (WFP) has found that the reach of school meals in low-income countries remains four percent below pre-pandemic levels. The State of School Feeding Worldwide 2022 report also revealed that Africa had the biggest declines in school meal coverage.

5. The G20 Chief Science Advisers’ Roundtable (CSAR) is a critical government-to-government initiative of the G20 Presidency that will deliberate on free and universal access to scientific journals that are behind paywalls. India assumed the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022, and the G20 summit will be held in New Delhi from September 9-10, 2023.

6. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently confirmed a USD 3 billion bailout plan (under Extended Fund Facility (EFF)) for Sri Lanka’s struggling economy.
