Consequently, uncoordinated responses ensue in the midst of epidemics. A new law or amendments to EDA were proposed in the report in order to fill these gaps.

1. Former prime ministers P.V. Narasimha Rao and Charan Singh, as well as scientist M.S. Swaminathan, will be awarded India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna. The awards recognise their enormous contributions to India’s growth and prosperity.

2. NASA has begun conducting marathon research flights across Asia in an effort to improve air pollution forecasting models. The flights will collect detailed data on air pollution sources and behaviour to improve public warning systems. Every year, air pollution contributes to millions of deaths. The flights use NASA’s DC-8 flying laboratory, the world’s largest aircraft designed for airborne science missions. Beginning in the Philippines, the DC-8 will fly for up to 8 hours at a time, sometimes as low as 15 metres above the ground, to collect air pollution particles for analysis.
