1. As part of the Mountain Cleaning Campaign 2024 in the Everest region, the Nepal Army will gather around 10 tonnes of waste and retrieve five deceased individuals from Mt. Everest. The cleaning programme seeks to mitigate anthropogenic pollution in the Himalayas and tackle issues pertaining to climate change.

2. South Korea has safely sent into space its second military spy satellite that was made in the country. A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with the satellite on board was sent into space from an American space station. After the successful launch of South Korea’s first military spy satellite by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in December 2022, this is another big accomplishment.

3. NASA is preparing for the imminent total solar eclipse, during which the moon’s shadow will move across a large area of North America. In order to observe this uncommon celestial phenomenon, the space agency will utilise two of its specialised WB-57 jet planes, which are equipped with cutting-edge instrumentation. These planes will be used to monitor the eclipse and carry out scientific research on the Sun’s outer atmosphere, also referred to as the corona.

The Indian Government has recently unveiled a Rs. 496 crore initiative (till 2025-26) aimed at facilitating pilot projects that assess the feasibility of utilising green hydrogen as a fuel for automobiles and large vehicles. The programme, administered by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), seeks to verify the technical feasibility, assess the economic sustainability, and showcase the safe functioning of cars fueled by hydrogen and the recharging facilities for such vehicles.

5. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently held a meeting and decided to hold the repo rate, which is the primary policy rate, at 6.5 per cent. They also agreed to continue with the policy stance of ‘removal of accommodation’. Both decisions were made through a voting process in which five out of the six members of the MPC, led by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, voted in favour.

1. The Indian government officially voiced vehement opposition of China’s recent actions to rename certain locations in Arunachal Pradesh. India reaffirmed that the bordering country’s initiatives were unfounded. A statement was issued by the Ministry of External Affairs affirming that Arunachal Pradesh is a crucial and inseparable component of democratic India. India always resisted succumbing to any form of coercion from the Chinese country.

3. Recently, a massive earthquake struck Taiwan, causing significant damage and casualties. The earthquake, measuring 7.2 magnitude according to Taiwan’s earthquake monitoring agency and 7.4 according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), was the biggest earthquake to hit the island in at least 25 years. The epicentre was located just 18 kilometres south-southwest of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan.

4. OpenAI has unveiled a novel artificial intelligence model named Voice Engine. This model has the ability to imitate any voice in any language by utilising a short audio sample. This allows users to create audio material that sounds exactly like the original sample in terms of voice and speaking style. Although the corporation has not yet made Voice Engine available to the public, it is believed that this decision is mostly driven by safety concerns.

According to the analysis, India’s market capitalization is expected to reach $10 trillion by 2030, propelled by robust economic expansion and advantageous government policies. By 2027, India would become the third-largest economy globally.

Users have been warned by the agency regarding the potential for “juice jacking attacks,” in which cybercriminals compromise devices while they are being charged via USB interfaces.

3. Unified Payment Interface (UPI) transactions in India increased by 56% between July and December 2023, according to a recent national government study. The number of transactions increased dramatically from 42.1 billion to 65.7 billion in the second half of 2022. With increasing transaction counts, the Indian government assessed the value at INR 99.68 lakh crores, representing a 44% rise overall.

The laser is located in a research facility in close proximity to Bucharest, the capital of Romania.
