1. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, opened two new lines of the Delhi Metro. One of them is India’s first fully operational “Ring Metro.” This was a big improvement for the city’s public transportation system. The Pink Line’s Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur corridor and the Magenta Line’s Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension are both part of the opening. The expansion should make it much easier to get around between north and northeast Delhi, and it should also make the metro system stronger.

2. Researchers at the University of Waterloo in Canada have come up with a new way to turn plastic waste into acetic acid, which is the main ingredient in vinegar, using only sunlight. The breakthrough gives us a good way to deal with plastic pollution while also making a useful chemical for industry. The method uses a chemical reaction that is triggered by light to break down plastic materials into useful compounds without needing very high temperatures or dangerous chemicals.

3. On the cliffs of Santa Cruz Beach in Torres Vedras, Portugal, scientists have found a rare nest with ten dinosaur eggs that are about 150 million years old. The discovery gives us important information about life in the Upper Jurassic period. Carlos Natário, a researcher at the Centre for Research in Paleobiology and Paleoecology (Ci2Paleo), which is part of the Torres Vedras Natural History Society, found the nest. The find gives us more information about how dinosaurs reproduced and the ecosystems that existed in the area long ago.

1. The Maharashtra government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with three Finnish companies to upgrade Sassoon Dock in Mumbai and turn it into a fishing harbor that is both high-tech and good for the environment. The Maharashtra Fisheries Development Corporation signed the agreement to modernize one of India’s oldest and most important fishing docks by improving infrastructure, waste management, and introducing new systems.

3. A recent study of the Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) from 1990 to 2023 found that India and China have the most metabolic diseases in the Asia-Pacific region. 1. India has put forward a draft ministerial declaration at the World Trade Organization (WTO) asking for stronger promises to send advanced technologies to developing and least developed countries. The proposal was sent out before the WTO’s 14th Ministerial Conference (MC14), which will be held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from March 26 to 29. New Delhi says that technology gaps make it harder for developing economies to compete in global trade and get the most out of international markets.

1. Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers J. P. Nadda talked about how the government is working to make India’s bio-pharmaceutical and chemical industries stronger by making big budgetary changes. He spoke at a post-Budget webinar on “Sustaining and Strengthening Economic Growth” and said that the ₹13,000 crore set aside for Bio-Pharma SHAKTI and the building of three dedicated chemical parks show that India is making a long-term investment in its industrial and healthcare future. The project fits with Viksit Bharat’s bigger goals and aims to make India more competitive in the global market for high-value pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing.

2. A big leak of dangerous oleum gas at a chemical factory in Maharashtra’s Palghar district caused panic and led officials to evacuate more than 2,600 people as a safety measure. The event took place at a Bhageria Industries Ltd. unit in the Boisar MIDC industrial area, which is on the outskirts of Mumbai. Strong winds quickly spread a thick cloud of white smoke over a wide area, affecting places within a five-kilometer radius and raising concerns about public safety.

3. Under the Vision 2047 framework, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, India’s Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, stressed the country’s commitment to building tourism destinations that are globally competitive, sustainable, and focused on the community. At the UN Tourism Minister’s Summit in Berlin in 2026, he talked about India’s plan for responsible and inclusive tourism growth. The minister said that the country’s tourism policy is based on the idea of “Growth with Responsibility,” which means that economic growth should be balanced with protecting the environment and preserving culture.

4. Reports say that Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the son of Iran’s long-time Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will be the next Supreme Leader after his father died in a joint US-Israel strike. Reports say that Iran’s powerful Assembly of Experts chose Mojtaba to take over the job, making him the head of Iran’s political and religious leadership during a time of rising tensions in the region.

5. At the Schöningen archaeological site in Lower Saxony, Germany, scientists found genetic material that is about 200,000 years old. The find goes against what scientists have thought for a long time about where ancient DNA can live. Researchers used to think that genetic material this old could only be kept in very cold places like permafrost or deep caves. But the DNA that was just found lived in sediments that were open to the air and changing weather for thousands of years. The study, which was published in “Nature Ecology & Evolution,” says that ancient DNA can stay intact for much longer than scientists thought possible under certain chemical conditions.

6. For more than 20 years, a remarkable community-led conservation effort has been protecting ruddy shelducks and their young in the remote Mudh Valley of Ladakh. Every summer, villagers see a one-of-a-kind natural event: a pair of ruddy shelducks leading their young on a long journey from the valley to the Indus River. The parent birds lead the small chicks, which are covered in mottled white and black down, through rough terrain on a trip that usually lasts three to six hours.

7. The historic Hatti Risala procession in Jalna, Maharashtra, celebrated its 138th year with lively events on Dhulivandan, the day after the Holi festival. People from all over the city came out to see the traditional procession on the main streets. The procession is a major symbol of community participation and harmony. 1. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has added a new facilitation measure for trusted manufacturers in line with the Union Budget 2026–27 announcement by the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs. The program allows a new group of importers called Eligible Manufacturer Importers (EMIs) to pay their customs duties later. Circular No. 08/2026-Customs, dated February 28, 2026, has given out detailed instructions.

Officials say that the steady rise is due to coordinated governance, public trust, and the use of technology.

6. Scientists have found fossils of Earth’s oldest animals in rocks that are more than 541 million years old. This pushes back the timeline of complex life. The find suggests that soft-bodied sea sponges were some of the first animals to live in the oceans of the Earth, long before the Cambrian explosion. The results show that some biological traits found in modern sponges were also present in these old organisms.

Researchers have found pieces of a Mandir-style stone pillar from the 12th century near the banks of the Vena River in Hinganghat town, which is about 70 km from Nagpur in Maharashtra’s Wardha district.
