7. Reliance Jio added 8.5 million subscribers in July, after almost three months of slow addition, even as the older incumbents lost a cumulative six mn, according to data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Bharti Airtel reported 2.5 million subscribers exiting its network.

The union government launched a steel import monitoring system (SIMS) to provide advance information about steel imports to various stakeholders including producers and importers to have effective policy interventions. Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and his junior colleague Hardeep Singh Puri launched the system developed in consultation with Ministry of Steel on the pattern of US Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) system.

2. RBI expanded the scope of Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to cover all repetitive bill payments. They may include school fees, insurance premiums and municipal taxes. Currently, the facility of payment of recurring bills through BBPS is available only in five segments namely direct to home (DTH), electricity, gas, telecom and water.

Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region said that the Railway link service between the Agartala-Akhaura in Bangladesh will be completed by 2020 for Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER). 5. The US has topped as the world’s top oil exporter. The country defeated Saudi Arabia and Russia. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), in June, the US exports of crude topped 3 million barrels per day. This pushed its total oil exports to nearly 9 million barrels per day.

8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to launch the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) for eradicating the foot and mouth disease and brucellosis in livestock. The project cost 12,652 crores for a period of five years till 2024, will be funded entirely by the government.
