3. Industrial production growth dropped to two per cent in June this year, mainly on account of the poor show by mining and manufacturing sectors.There was a slowdown in the manufacturing sector, which grew at 1.2 per cent in June as compared to 6.9 per cent a year ago.

1. Researchers in Canada and China developed a technology called transdermal optical imaging (TOI). The technology works by taking into account the fact the facial skin is translucent. The Optical sensors on smartphones that are used can capture red light reflected from hemoglobin under the skin.

2. The Khadi and Village Industry Commission (KVIC) launched Leather Mission on World Tribal Day. The mission empowers the commission to give leather kits to the leather artisans across the nation. KVIC distributed 50 leather kits to the leather artisans across the nation.

8. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allowed Bank of China to offer regular banking services in the country. Commercial banks, like SBI, HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank and ICICI Bank, are in the Second Schedule.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman started the process of rolling out a slew of measures to boost industry’s access to credit, including opening a 10,000 crore liquidity window for home financiers. She will meet chiefs of all state-run to discuss issues related to credit growth in key segments of the economy, including automobile, retail, small businesses, affordable housing, and non-banking financial companies and housing finance companies (HFCs).

10. GST collection in July surpassed the Rs.1 lakh crore mark after a slump in the June month. Centre’s data reported that the total disposal under Goods and Services Tax (GST) was reported to be Rs.1.02 lakh crore in July 2019.

3. The UK capital London has been named as the world’s best city for students for the second consecutive year. According to the rankings, India’s best student city is Bengaluru (81st), followed by Mumbai (85th), Delhi (at 113) and Chennai (at 115) out of a total of 120 cities ranked in the list.

4. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) would set up a Pashmina testing centre in Leh, in partnership with the lab of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh.

9. Rajya Sabha passed the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019 with 108 votes in favour and 13 against it. The amendment aims to improve road safety, enhance the penalty for traffic violations, facilitate citizens in dealing with transport departments and curb corruption.
