2. NASA has begun conducting marathon research flights across Asia in an effort to improve air pollution forecasting models. The flights will collect detailed data on air pollution sources and behaviour to improve public warning systems. Every year, air pollution contributes to millions of deaths. The flights use NASA’s DC-8 flying laboratory, the world’s largest aircraft designed for airborne science missions. Beginning in the Philippines, the DC-8 will fly for up to 8 hours at a time, sometimes as low as 15 metres above the ground, to collect air pollution particles for analysis.

3. The government of Uttarakhand has enacted legislation in preparation for the state’s Uniform Civil Code (UCC) implementation. Following Goa, where a UCC has been in effect since Portuguese rule, Uttarakhand would become the second Indian state to adopt one if the proposal were to be implemented. The primary objective of the proposed legislation is to establish regulations and oversight for legislation pertaining to matrimony, divorce, successions, and cohabitation. The legislation expressly forbids bigamy and polygamy, which are defined as practices that entail the union of multiple spouses concurrently or while legally wedded to another individual. Five specific conditions for the solemnization of marriages in the state are also delineated in the UCC Bill.

7. A Working Group, which was recently established by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has put forth a set of recommendations aimed at resolving concerns pertaining to State government guarantees. In the Interim Budget 2024-25, the Finance Minister recently declared the broadening of the fertilizer’s application to include Nano DAP (Di-ammonium Phosphate) on a variety of crops across all agroclimatic zones. Nanofertilizers are exceptionally effective varieties of fertilisers that supply crops with nutrients such as nitrogen in the form of minuscule granules.

1. Proposed amendments to legislation by the Law Commission are intended to mitigate the risk of harm inflicted upon private and public property as a result of blockades and demonstrations. The primary objective of these suggestions is to impose more severe sanctions on entities or individuals responsible for instigating such disturbances, levying fines equivalent to the market value of the harm inflicted.

2. In 2025, India intends to launch a manned space mission called Gaganyaan. Later this year, however, a “robot friend” named Vyommitra will test critical systems in space prior to the launch of human astronauts. The purpose of this female humanoid robot is to replicate human functions while in orbit with the spacecraft.

3. NASA, an American space agency, has identified TOI-715 b as a “super-Earth” planet with the potential to sustain life. It was discovered by the planet-hunting Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission of NASA 137 light-years away. Circulating around 1.5 times the width of Earth, the super-Earth is a planet that is smaller and a cooler red dwarf star. A full orbit is accomplished in a mere 19 days.

7. For centuries, buffalo fighting has been part of Assam’s Magh Bihu celebrations. The fights take place throughout the state during the harvest festival, with the village of Ahatguri in Nagaon district serving as the most prominent venue. The fights are organised by the local Ahatguri Buffalo Fight Committee and attract large crowds. Participants pit two buffaloes against each other and lock horns until one of them flees, declaring the other the winner.
