1. According to the latest report from the World Bank, India is set to become the largest recipient of remittances, with inflows expected to increase by 12.4% to $125 billion in 2023, constituting 3.4% of the country’s gross domestic product.

8. On December 15, 2023, the Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) joined hands, signing a significant agreement for a 37 billion Japanese Yen ($250 million) loan. This funding will continue to support the construction of the 82-kilometer Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. The loan, amounting to 37 billion Japanese Yen, is part of a broader $1,049 million Multi-tranche Financing Facility (MFF) approved by ADB in 2020 for the RRTS project.

2. In a tragic incident, three masons lost their lives while undertaking repairs on the ancient walls encircling the Old City of Kairouan in Tunisia—a UNESCO World Heritage site. SDB aims to shift and expand the diamond trading business from Mumbai to Surat, known for diamond cutting and polishing. The bourse, built at DREAM (Diamond Research and Mercantile) city, covers an area of 66 lakh square feet, costing Rs 3,200 crore.

4. The State Bank of India’s (SBI) has hiked its marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR) and base rate. The new rates are effective from December 15, 2023, according to the SBI website. The MCLR is the lowest interest rate at which a bank can make a loan to a customer.
स्टेट बँक ऑफ इंडिया (SBI) ने निधी-आधारित कर्ज दर (MCLR) आणि बेस रेटच्या किरकोळ किंमतीत वाढ केली आहे. एसबीआयच्या वेबसाइटनुसार नवीन दर 15 डिसेंबर 2023 पासून लागू होणार आहेत. MCLR हा सर्वात कमी व्याजदर आहे ज्यावर बँक ग्राहकाला कर्ज देऊ शकते.

6. The government’s net direct tax collection for April to November 2023, stood at 58.34 percent of Budget Estimates (BE) at 10.64 lakh crore rupees. The Gross collections, before issuing refunds, grew at 17.7 percent to 12.67 lakh crore rupees in the April-November period.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has officially issued the aerodrome license for the eagerly awaited Ayodhya Airport, developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at a cost of approximately Rs 350 crore. AAI announced recently that the airport has received an aerodrome license in the public use category, boasting a 2,200m long runway. The infrastructure includes complete Aeronautical Ground Lights (AGLs) and is supported by DVOR & Instrument Landing System (ILS), enabling operations in all weather conditions, including night flights and low visibility/RVR 550m.

The joint statement follows the India-US Anti-Money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Dialogue, co-chaired by India’s revenue secretary Sanjay Malhotra and US Treasury under-secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence Brian Nelson.
