1. The Vaccine Alliance (Gavi) recently showed more support for adding rabies medicines for people to normal immunisation programmes, with a focus on post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). The goal of this programme is to make the fight against rabies stronger around the world, especially in places where it is most common.

1. An junior professor at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Centre named Dr. Michael Gottlieb started the search for AIDS by mistake at the start of 1981. The patient had pneumocystis pneumonia, a rare illness that makes people lose weight quickly and for no obvious reason. Dr. Gottlier asked a post-doc to look at the patient while he was teaching immunology. Like the first case, five more were added to the study, which led to a major piece in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. This was the first written record of what it was before it was known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).

The site at L1 is crucial because it provides the spacecraft with a clear view of the Sun, which facilitates the continuous monitoring of the Sun.
