1. A new genus of butterflies has been discovered and named Saurona by the Natural History Museum in London. The experts chose the name because the black rings on the butterfly’s orange wings reminded them of the all-seeing eye in JRR Tolkien’s books.

2. The trailer for a new feature film called Love in 90s was released in New Delhi by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. The movie is directed by Tapen Natam and is notable for being the first film based on the Tagin community of Arunachal Pradesh.

4. NASA scientists have conducted a new study which suggests that there could be water in the four largest moons of Uranus. This study re-analyzed data from the Voyager-2 spacecraft from the 1980s, along with advanced computer models. The four moons that were studied are Ariel, Umbriel, Titania, and Oberon. This discovery is considered to be a significant breakthrough in understanding the potential for life beyond Earth.

5. The Central Government of India has issued a directive to refer to All India Radio (AIR), the country’s public broadcaster, as Akashvani in all its programs and broadcasts. The move aims to strengthen the legacy of AIR’s original name and promote India’s cultural heritage. AIR, which was established in 1936, has been broadcasting various programs in multiple languages across India for over eight decades.

6. Credit Suisse, a Swiss bank, has purchased Ecuadorian bonds worth $1.6 billion in exchange for a debt-for-nature swap. As a result of this agreement, Ecuador is committed to investing $18 million annually for the next two decades on conservation projects in the Galapagos Islands, which is one of the world’s most valuable ecosystems.

7. The Indian Union Ministry of Defence has made changes to the cadre management provisions for women officers of the Territorial Army in April 2023. As per the new amendment, women officers will now be posted along the Line of Control (LoC), which was not allowed earlier. This will provide them with an opportunity to serve in combat zones and play a more active role in the defense of the country. The move is seen as a positive step towards gender parity and inclusion in the armed forces.
