1. In March 2024, India’s goods exports totaled USD 41.68 billion, down 0.67% from the previous year’s total but still higher than the FY 2022–2023 total. Conversely, within the same time frame, imports decreased by 6% to USD 57.3 billion. For the first time in eleven months, the goods trade deficit shrank to USD 15.6 billion.

6. The Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar award will be given to Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan on April 24, 2024. 7. Astronomers have discovered the largest stellar-mass black hole yet observed in our galaxy, the Milky Way. Designated as Gaia BH3, this celestial object is a black hole situated at a distance of around 2,000 light-years from Earth in the Aquila constellation. It has the distinction of being the second-nearest black hole to our planet that is currently known. The identification was achieved by the examination of data gathered from the Gaia mission conducted by the European Space Agency. This data revealed the detection of a star exhibiting a noticeable oscillation in close proximity to the black hole, thus proving the existence of the black hole.

1. Telangana, West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Goa are among the states for which the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert due to a heatwave. It is predicted that the heatwave would last from April 16 to April 17.Furthermore, a second heatwave episode is expected in April for Odisha, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh, with isolated areas of these states experiencing heatwave conditions from April 16–20. This prediction comes from IMD.

2. Restrictions have been placed on the export of necessary goods to the Maldives by India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). This means that necessary goods that are limited or forbidden can only be exported through four Indian ports. The ports that have been identified are the ports of Mundra, Gujarat; Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu; Nhava Sheva Sea Port (JNPT), Maharashtra; and ICD Tughlakabad, New Delhi.

3. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has approved a new vaccination called Men5CV to defend against five strains of the meningococcus bacterium. Its mission is to assist regular meningitis immunisation programmes in lower-income countries.

4. In the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has authorised Indian citizens to mitigate their gold price risk on internationally recognised exchanges. 1. The Central Government’s Green Credit Programme (GCP) is led by Madhya Pradesh. In the last two months, over 500 plots of land in 10 states have been cleared for tree planting. Ten thousand hectares of land have been set aside by these states for the project. The most accepted damaged forest land for planting trees and making the environment greener is said to be in MP (954 hectares), then in Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Assam. Aside from Odisha, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu, other states have also accepted land lots.

2. The India Meteorological Department says that India will likely get more rain than usual during the monsoon season of 2024. By August or September, La Nina conditions are expected to set in. This guess comes from looking at past records that show more rain than usual during La Nina events that happened after El Nino events. It was El Nino in 2023, which meant that India had weaker monsoon winds and dry weather. The country also got less rain than usual.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is bolstering the security measures at an additional 30 air bases around the nation by implementing a sophisticated, multi-layered, multi-sensor, high-tech surveillance, and intrusion detection system. Currently, the system is functioning at 17-18 of these locations.

1. On April 13, Siachen Day is celebrated to remember the bravery and loss of Indian Army men who fought at the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield. On the same day in 1984, “Operation Meghdoot” began to protect the glacier, which was carefully placed close to the Line of Control between India and Pakistan.

China recently renamed various locations in Arunachal Pradesh, which India has rejected, arguing that the assignment of “invented” names does not change the fact that the state “is, has been, and will always be” an important part of India. China’s decision was met with negative reactions from India.

3. NASA is preparing for the imminent total solar eclipse, during which the moon’s shadow will move across a large area of North America. These planes will be used to monitor the eclipse and carry out scientific research on the Sun’s outer atmosphere, also referred to as the corona.
